Privacy Policy
Braille Translator by Braillito (Chrome extension) · Last updated: November 1, 2026
In short: the Braille Translator by Braillito extension collects no personal data. It makes no network requests, has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not read the pages you visit: it only receives the text you select and send to it with the right-click menu, and that text never leaves your browser.
Braille Translator by Braillito ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that translates English text into braille. It is made by Braillito, the braille learning app. This policy covers the extension only. The Braillito app and website have their own Privacy Policy.
1. What the extension handles, and where it stays
| What | Why | Where it stays |
|---|---|---|
| The text you type or paste in the translator | To translate it into braille | On the translator page only, while it is open. It is not saved. |
| The text you select and send with "Translate to braille" | To open the side panel with that text already translated | In Chrome's session storage, in memory, until the panel reads it. Chrome clears it when it closes. |
| The braille grade you choose (Grade 1 or Grade 2) | To open the translator with the same grade next time | In Chrome's local storage, on your computer |
None of this is sent to Braillito or to anyone else. The braille engine (liblouis) runs inside the extension, so the translation works offline.
2. What the extension does not do
- It does not read, collect or change the content of the pages you visit. It has no content scripts and no access to websites.
- It does not collect your browsing history, your location, your email or any other personal information.
- It does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- It does not sell or share any data, because it has none to share.
3. Permissions
- contextMenus: adds "Translate to braille" to the right-click menu when you select text.
- sidePanel: shows the translation in Chrome's side panel, next to the page.
- storage: remembers your braille grade and passes the selected text from the menu to the panel, as described in Section 1.
4. Links to braillito.com
The translator has a link to braillito.com. If you click it, the page opens in a new tab with tags in the address (utm_source=chrome-extension) that tell braillito.com the visit came from the extension. From then on, what braillito.com collects is covered by the Braillito Privacy Policy. The extension itself sends nothing.
5. Children
The extension collects no data from anyone, children included.
6. Changes
If a future version of the extension handles data differently, this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the date at the top will change.
