Braillito: what the course teaches and what comes after

The Braillito course takes you from the vowels to numbers and math, in your language's braille. In English it has 59 lessons across 8 worlds.

What do I learn in each world?

  1. Valley of Letters: the 5 vowels, the foundation of braille.
  2. Path of Letters: the most common consonants and your first words.
  3. Word Mountain: vocabulary with all the letters you know.
  4. Letter Archipelago: the last letters, until the alphabet is complete.
  5. Kingdom of Words: full vocabulary and reading sentences.
  6. Temple of Capitals & Numbers: the capital sign and the numbers 0 to 9.
  7. Galaxy of Codes & Operations: punctuation and math: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  8. Final Challenge: you review everything with every type of game.

Each lesson is a series of short games. More in Where are the games?.

Why does my course have a different number of lessons?

Because every language has its own letters. Spanish and Portuguese, for example, have an extra world for accented letters. The percentage on Home counts only the lessons for the app's language. If you change the language, the list and the percentage change, but the lessons you finished stay saved.

Which braille does it teach? Is it UEB?

Yes: Unified English Braille (UEB), uncontracted (grade 1), letter by letter with no contractions. Punctuation, parentheses and the math signs (plus, minus, times, divided by and equals) are written the UEB way too. Most braille books in English use grade 2, which adds contractions, and grade 2 isn't in the app. Grade 1 is where everyone starts. To see a text in grade 2, our English braille translator handles both grades.

In the US, many schools teach math with Nemeth Code instead of UEB. Braillito doesn't teach Nemeth.

The course teaches you to read and build braille on the screen. It doesn't teach writing with a slate and stylus.

I finished the Final Challenge. Now what?

After the last lesson you see «You completed the course!». There are no hidden lessons after it: the course ends there. To keep practicing:

  • Review anything you want. In the Lessons tab, finished lessons show REVIEW. You can redo them as many times as you like.
  • Use the Tools. The Translator turns any text you type into braille. The Dictionary shows how a letter, number or sign is written. The Builder lets you put words together dot by dot.
  • Go back to the Final Challenge. Home shows the course at 100 %, and «Continue learning» takes you to that last lesson.
