Braillito Maps help

Answers to the most common questions about Braillito Maps, the map of accessible places: how to search, how to add and correct a place, what happens to reports and how it works with VoiceOver.

In English, the app’s settings and help are translated, but most map screens (search, place pages, the checklist and reports) still show in Spanish. Where a button is in Spanish, its Spanish label comes in brackets.

Getting started

What is Braillito Maps?

A map of accessible places, built by the people who visit them. Each place’s page says what it has (a ramp, an adapted toilet, braille signage and the rest of a ten-point checklist), and anyone who goes there can add a new place, correct the checklist, write a review or add photos.

Is Braillito Maps free?

Yes. Braillito Maps has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no ads. For now it is for iPhone, on the App Store.

In the Search tab (Buscar), pick a city: the app opens on the last one you used or, if you allow location access, on yours. Then turn on the filters for what you need: only the places that have everything you selected remain, and each filter shows how many there are. You can also search by name or address. Results show as a list or on the map, and tapping one opens its page.

Why do I need an account?

The app asks you to sign in with Apple or Google before you start. It is the same account as Braillito, the app for learning braille. What gets added belongs to someone, and that is what makes it possible to correct, report and block. Your account also keeps your places: you find them in My places (Mis lugares) on any phone where you sign in.

Adding and correcting places

How do I add a place?

Tap the + button, type the name and the address, and pick the address from the suggestions or tap Use my location (Usar mi ubicación). The place’s location comes from the address you pick or from your GPS: if it is not right, type the address again and pick another suggestion. You can add a photo. If there is already a place very close by, the app warns you so it isn’t added twice. The place shows up on the map as soon as you tap Save place (Guardar lugar), without waiting for a review.

What’s on the checklist?

Ten points. For mobility: step-free entrance or ramp, wide door, adapted toilet and accessible parking. For people who are blind or have low vision: tactile paving, braille signage, braille menu, audible signals, guide dogs welcome and a quiet environment. For each one you answer Yes, No or Don’t know (Sí, No, ?): only answer Yes or No if you saw it. A place’s score is how many of the ten it has, for example 7 out of 10. Separately, you can mark whether it is kid-friendly, which does not count toward the score.

Can I correct or delete what I added?

Anyone can correct the checklist of any place, yours or someone else’s, from its page with Correct the listing (Corregir la ficha). You need a profile with a name for that, because every correction is signed in the place’s history. The name, the address and the photo you added it with cannot be changed in the app, and a place cannot be deleted from it either: email [email protected] with the name of the place and what needs to change.

Reports and blocking

A place has wrong information. What do I do?

If it is a checklist item, you can fix it yourself with Correct the listing. For anything else, open the place and tap Report a problem (Reportar un problema). Pick the reason (wrong information, doesn’t exist or isn’t a place, wrong photo, offensive content, spam or advertising, or another reason). Tapping the reason sends the report. If you want to give us more details, email [email protected]. The person who added the place does not see who reported it.

What happens after I report a place?

When three different people report the same place, it is hidden automatically, without waiting for us to review it. Each person counts once, even if they report twice. The person who added it still sees it in My places, with a note that it is hidden while we review the reports. On the same report screen you can choose to see nothing more from the person who added the place: neither their places nor their reviews. For now, that cannot be undone from the app.

Accessibility

Does it work with a screen reader?

Yes, it is designed for VoiceOver. Buttons and tabs have names for the screen reader, and when VoiceOver is on, Search opens as a list instead of the map, because a map of pins has no order to move through. When you filter, the app announces how many places are left. In Search, the map results can also be shown as a list.

Can I make the text bigger or raise the contrast?

Text follows the size you set in your phone’s settings. In the app’s Settings (the Profile tab), under Appearance, there is a high-contrast mode and a dark mode. If Reduce Motion is on in your phone, the app follows it automatically.

Your account

How do I change the language?

In Settings (the Profile tab), under Language, tap App language and pick one of 38 languages. The change applies right away, without restarting the app. In every language other than Spanish, most map screens (search, place pages, the checklist and reports) still show in Spanish.

How do I delete my account?

In Settings (the Profile tab), at the bottom, tap Delete account. It is the same account as Braillito, so your braille progress is deleted too. Your profile and your reviews are deleted with the account; the places you added stay on the map without your name, because they belong to the community. The photos you uploaded stay too, without your name: if you want us to take any of them down, email [email protected] first. It cannot be undone. If you pay for a Braillito subscription, cancel it in the store first: deleting the account does not cancel it.
